Tender for the Supply and Installation of 220kV Switchgear, Fire Suppression System, Construction of Fire Walls, and the Upgrade of Control System for the 2nd Electrical Interconnector between Malta and Italy CT3017/2024
Interconnector 2 is a c.122km cable link that will be operated at a nominal 220kV, 50Hz between the Terna substation at Ragusa, Sicily and the Enemalta terminal station in Maghtab, Malta. Its nominal continuous power throughput in any direction is 225MW. The interconnector cable link will be composed of a land cable in Sicily with a length of approximately 21 km, a three-core submarine cable with a length of approximately 99km, and an approximately 2 km long land cable in Malta. The capacitive reactance of the cable shall be compensated by shunt reactors on both sides. It is intended that the interconnector is normally switched on from the Ragusa side. Tenders have been issued for the procurement of shunt reactors and autotransformer to be installed at the substations in Ragusa and Maghtab (CT3004/2024), and for the onshore cable and related works in Italy and Malta (CT3003/2024). Tenders are being finalised for the procurement of the subsea cable and for switchgear and other works in Ragusa.
